Twelve women-led community collectives from nine counties graduated from a transformative business incubation program during a colourful ceremony at the University of Nairobi Towers on July 30, 2025. The event marked the successful conclusion of a three-year project aimed at strengthening women’s entrepreneurship and driving rural industrialization in Kenya.

The University of Nairobi hosted a high-level delegation of Heads of Internal Audit from various Nigerian universities on July 23, 2025. This marked a significant step in fostering inter-university collaboration in governance, accountability and institutional development.

The University of Nairobi proudly hosted the official opening ceremony of the Annual Conference of the African Finance and Economic Association (AFEA) 2025 on July 16, 2025. This was a prestigious continental gathering of scholars, policymakers, and practitioners in the fields of finance and economics. The three-day event is being jointly organised by the Department of Economics and Development Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Nairobi.

The University of Nairobi on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, received a delegation from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) during a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Margaret Hutchinson. The visit marked the beginning of a week-long engagement aimed at formulating a comprehensive partnership framework between the two institutions.

The University of Nairobi in partnership with the Equity Group Foundation and the Kenya Forest Service facilitated a community tree planting exercise at the University of Nairobi’s Upper Kabete Campus on Tuesday May 18th, 2021.

Equity Group Foundation donated about 7,000 trees which were planted in identified grounds at the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Services and the Wangari Maathai Institute. In light of the COVID-19 Pandemic, tree planting is now viewed as a necessary exercise to promote the production of oxygen.

The University of Nairobi hosted its 2nd Prize presentation ceremony on Friday May 7, 2021.  In the ceremony, the university celebrated and recognized students with outstanding performance in their academic and extra-curricular activities from 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 academic years.

Centre for Advanced Studies in Environmental Law and Policy (CASELAP) has been crowned overall winner in the Performance Contract 2019/2020.

The University of Nairobi in partnership with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation launched a Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Hub on Wednesday December 16, 2020.

The WEE hub will be domiciled at the African Women’s Study centre at the UoN.

Prof. Margaret Hutchinson is the new Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance Planning and Development for the next 6 months. She is from the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences. 

Prof. Enos Njeru who has been the Principal, College of Humanities and Social Sciences has been appointed as the new Ag. Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Human Resource and Administration for the next 6 months. 

The new Confucius Institute Building located on Arboretum Drive, has officially been handed over to the University of Nairobi. The ceremony was presided over by the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Prof. George Magoha, who praised the good relationships between Beijing and Nairobi.

Constructed at a cost of 1.4Billion shillings, the new Confucius Building hosts a number of lecture halls, conference facilities, accommodation facilities, staff offices and Chinese Language research offices and language libraries.
