The University of Nairobi is exploring strategic collaboration opportunities with Equity Bank Kenya Ltd aimed at advancing youth and women's empowerment through innovation, entrepreneurship and capacity development.

The discussions took place on August 5, 2026, during a meeting between the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance, Planning and Development), Prof. Josiah Aduda, and a delegation from Equity Bank Kenya Ltd led by Charity Munyori, Senior Manager, Women & Youth Banking.

The engagement focused on identifying areas of mutual interest, particularly through the Equity Group Foundation, which supports youth empowerment and entrepreneurship. During the meeting, the Equity Bank team outlined the Foundation's strategic focus on innovation and youth empowerment, with a special emphasis on supporting young entrepreneurs who have established businesses within the last 12 months.

The delegation further noted that the Foundation's current priority areas include Food and Agriculture, where it seeks to promote sustainable enterprises, strengthen value chains and create economic opportunities for young people and women.

The meeting also explored opportunities for collaboration with the University's African Women Studies Centre (AWSC) that was represented by Prof. Wanjiku Kabira. The proposed partnership aims to create programmes that would benefit students, young entrepreneurs and women through innovation, entrepreneurship, mentorship and capacity-building initiatives.

Speaking during the meeting, Prof. Aduda reaffirmed the University of Nairobi's commitment to forging partnerships that enhance student development, promote innovation and contribute to socio-economic transformation. “Collaborations with industry partners such as Equity Bank are essential in equipping young people with practical skills, entrepreneurial capabilities and opportunities that complement academic training,” he noted.

The discussions underscored the shared commitment of the University of Nairobi and Equity Bank Kenya Ltd to nurturing an entrepreneurial culture, supporting innovation-driven enterprises and empowering the next generation of leaders and job creators.
