The University of Nairobi hosted an exit meeting with the Office of the Auditor-General (OAG), on August 03, 2026, marking the successful conclusion of a one-and-a-half-month audit exercise that covered various departments across the University.

The meeting was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eng. Ayub N. Gitau, and brought together members of the University Management alongside the audit team from the Office of the Auditor-General to review the outcomes of the exercise and discuss the way forward.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Finance, Planning and Development, Prof. Josiah Aduda, played a central role in the deliberations, as the majority of the audited departments fall under his division. The meeting provided an opportunity to review the key observations arising from the audit, acknowledge areas where progress has been made and identify aspects requiring further improvement.

Speaking during the meeting, the University Management expressed its appreciation to the Office of the Auditor-General for conducting the audit in a professional, objective and collaborative manner. Management noted that the audit process is an important mechanism for strengthening institutional systems, enhancing accountability and fostering a culture of continuous improvement across the University.

The University further reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the recommendations arising from the audit and addressing the identified areas for improvement. Management emphasised that the findings will guide measures to reinforce good governance, improve operational efficiency, strengthen internal controls and ensure the prudent management of the University's resources.

The exit meeting marked the successful conclusion of the audit exercise and underscored the shared commitment of the University of Nairobi and the Office of the Auditor-General to promoting transparency, accountability and excellence in public service. The collaborative engagement reaffirmed the importance of regular audits in supporting sound governance and advancing the University's mission of delivering quality teaching, research, innovation and service to society.
