Over the years, the University has undegone purposeful, decisive and aggressive transformational change, which has enabled it to ensure that the physical capacities, quality and availability of staff, and relevance of academic programmes are in syncwith the ever-increasing demand for access to higher education. 

In 2018, the office of the Depity Vice-Chancellor (Administration and Finance) was divided into two such that the roles of Finance, Planning and Development were placed under one office while those of Human Resource and Administration became the responsibility of a different office

The Finance, Planning and Development division was operationalized in 2018 vide University of Nairobi Statute VA 2016. The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Finance, Planning and Development is the head of the division whose functions include management of finance, assets and development plans of the University.

 

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance, Planning and Development) is in charge of:-

i).     designing, modeling and managing long-term financial and physical plans,

ii).    optimal utilization and investments of the University‘s finances and assets,

iii).   annual budget planning, monitoring and management strategies, and

iv).   provision of accurate and current financial information to support decision making.

 

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance, Planning and Development) is responsible for appropriate Finance Management Policies and procedures in conformity with the Constitution of Kenya and relevant laws.

 

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance, Planning and Development) shall have such other duties as may be assigned or delegated to him/her by the Vice-Chancellor in accordance with the Statute III of the University of Nairobi.

 

Departments of Finance, Planning and Development

Finance:

  • Responsible for management of financial resources.  The key sections are Income; Grants; Capital; Budgetary; Students Finance; Salaries and Wages; and Expenditure. It is headed by the Finance Officer

Internal Audit:

  • Responsible for audit assurance, compliance, internal controls and risk management. It is headed by a Chief Internal Auditor.

Construction & Maintenance:

  • Responsible for development and maintenance of physical infrastructure in the University.  The key sections are capital works and maintenance.  It is headed by a Manager.  

Information & Communication Technology Centre:

  • Responsible for development, deployment and support of information, communication and technology services.  The key sections are MIS; User support services and maintenance; Network services, Data center and Communication.  It is headed by a Director.

Procurement:

  • Responsible for supply chain management and disposal of assets.  It is headed by a Manager.

     Planning:

  • Responsible for provision of data for planning purposes and enhancement of University’s visibility and competitiveness locally and internationally.  It is headed by a Registrar.

Planning Division Functions

  1. This Division performs the functions of data collection, analysis and documentation;
  2. analysis and review of the University’s policies, strategies and programs;
  3. provision of technical advice on critical cross cutting management issues to the University;
  4. coordination of long term planning and development of university programmes;
  5. setting project priorities and ensuring optimal resource utilization;
  6. implementation of the University’s performance management systems (performance contracting and ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management systems); and
  7. Participation in the development, implementation and review of university’s strategic plan, mobilizing resources and managing linkages and partnerships geared towards the promotion of the university.
