In a special sitting of the University of Nairobi Council, held on May 14, 2026, Prof Josiah Omollo Aduda was appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance, Planning and Development (FPD), further strengthening the University’s substantive leadership team as the institution accelerates governance, financial sustainability, infrastructure modernization and strategic transformation initiatives.
Prof Josiah Omollo Aduda, who joins the University’s top leadership as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance, Planning and Development), is a distinguished scholar, accomplished academic leader and seasoned finance expert with over 25 years of experience in higher education, research, institutional governance and strategic leadership.
A Professor of Finance at the University of Nairobi, Prof Aduda has previously served as Dean of the School of Business, Chairman of the Department of Finance and Accounting and Acting Deputy Principal of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Through these leadership roles, he has contributed significantly to institutional governance, curriculum development, operational effectiveness and academic growth.
An accomplished researcher and mentor, Prof Aduda holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Dar es Salaam, in addition to an MBA and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi. He has supervised more than 25 PhD students and over 100 Master’s students, published extensively in refereed journals and presented papers at international conferences in finance, governance and organizational management.
Beyond academia, Prof. Aduda has served in various consultancy, governance and professional leadership capacities, contributing to strategic planning, financial management, policy development and institutional transformation initiatives in both public and private sector organizations.
Widely respected for his integrity, mentorship and visionary leadership, he is expected to play a central role in strengthening the University’s financial sustainability, resource mobilization and long-term strategic development agenda.
