The University of Nairobi and Kenya Utalii College have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening academic collaboration, enhancing industry linkages and advancing excellence in hospitality, tourism and related disciplines.

The MoU was signed on Monday, July 27, 2026, in a ceremony where the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance, Planning and Development), Prof. Josiah Aduda, represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Eng. Ayub N. Gitau.

The partnership marks a significant milestone in fostering collaboration between the two institutions by creating a framework for shared growth, resource optimisation and long-term sustainability. It also seeks to bridge academic excellence with industry expertise, positioning both institutions to better respond to the evolving needs of the hospitality and tourism sector.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Prof. Aduda noted that the collaboration brings together the University of Nairobi's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the specialised, industry-leading expertise of Kenya Utalii College. “This partnership will create opportunities for collaborative teaching, joint research, curriculum development, professional training and capacity building for both staff and students,” he added.

He further observed that the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to producing graduates equipped with relevant knowledge and practical skills while promoting innovation and excellence in hospitality, tourism and related fields. Through the partnership, the two institutions will also strengthen industry engagement and contribute to Kenya's socio-economic development.

The University of Nairobi delegation included Prof Jack Odhiambo, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; Dr. Ben Nyanchoga, Programme Coordinator; and Prof. George Gona, Chairman of the Department of History.

Kenya Utalii College was represented by its Principal and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mark Ogendi; Director of Academic Affairs, Ms. Esther Kotut; Director of Utalii Hotel, Mr. James Kamau; Head of the Department of Business Administration, Ms. Joan Gathungu; and Assistant Director, Marketing, Ms. Agnes Kirema.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding underscores the shared vision of the University of Nairobi and Kenya Utalii College to leverage strategic partnerships in enhancing academic quality, promoting innovation, strengthening industry collaboration, and supporting sustainable national development.
