DVC-FPD Prof Jackson Maalu receives equipment from FAO Kenya Country Representative Ms. Nyabenyi Tipo.

The University of Nairobi’s Faculty of Law received a significant boost on August 11, 2025, with the handing over of state-of-the-art digital audio-visual equipment donated by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations. The equipment is set to enhance the Digital Land Governance Programme, hosted at the Faculty’s Parklands Campus.

The ceremony was graced by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Finance, Planning and Development, Prof. Jackson Maalu, who represented the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Margaret Hutchinson. Also in attendance were FAO Kenya Country Representative, Ms. Nyabenyi Tipo, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Winne Kamau, the Associate Dean, Prof. Collins Odote, faculty staff and students.

In his remarks, Prof. Maalu commended FAO for their partnership and commitment to supporting education and innovation in land governance. “This donation is not just an investment in equipment, but in the quality of teaching, research and engagement that will shape policy and practice in land governance,” he noted.

Ms. Nyabenyi Tipo reiterated FAO’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity in Kenya, emphasising the importance of technology in advancing transparency, efficiency and inclusivity in land governance systems.

The equipment, which includes advanced digital audio and visual tools, will enable the Faculty to conduct high-quality virtual engagements, record and disseminate lectures, and facilitate interactive learning and research.

Prof. Winne Kamau expressed gratitude on behalf of the Faculty, noting that the Digital Land Governance Programme is a flagship initiative that addresses critical land issues through legal education, research and policy advocacy. “With this support, we can reach wider audiences, document valuable knowledge and bridge the gap between academia and practice,” she said.

The event concluded with the official handover, as Prof. Maalu received the equipment from FAO and presented it to Prof. Kamau, marking the start of a new chapter for the Digital Land Governance Programme.
