The University of Nairobi held its annual career fair on December 5 & 6, 2019 at the Main campus. The theme for this year’s fair was ‘Skilling graduates for the job market’.
During the official opening ceremony, Mr. Zhao Xiyuan, Minister Counselor, Chinese Embassy urged the graduates to take advantage of this opportunity that the institution has given them, “It is not easy for corporates to come right at your doorstep. If you may not get an employment opportunity then take this chance to learn and receive career advice.”
On his part, the Director, UoN Office of the Career Services, Mr. Johnson Kinyua gave a brief highlight of how the office the career services was commissioned in 2018 by the then Minister of Education, Amb. Amina Mohammed and how the career fair was established. He urged the students to acquaint themselves with the corporate world through the two-day fair, to ask questions and align themselves to always be ready to apply their skills to the world.
He announced that there were 32 Kenyan Companies and 18 Chinese companies that were ready to hire graduates at the fair. career talks on cyber security, data analytics, planning for career growth, future-ready workforce, skills for building brands in the 21st Century, transitioning from a student to a professional, competitive graduates in the job market are some of the activities lined up for the fair.
This year’s Career Fair was organized by the Office of Career Services and the UoN Confucius Institute.
