The University of Nairobi (UoN) successfully hosted the Africa Forward Youth Innovation Day on July 14, 2026, bringing together young innovators, academia, government, industry and development partners in a vibrant celebration of innovation, collaboration and youth-driven solutions for Africa's future.

The event, organised by the Embassy of France in Kenya as part of the 2026 Bastille Day celebrations, transformed the University into a dynamic hub for dialogue, innovation, exhibitions and strategic networking. Through five thematic pavilions, participants showcased cutting-edge innovations while engaging in discussions on entrepreneurship, technology, sustainability and the role of young people in shaping Africa's development.

The forum attracted a diverse audience comprising policymakers, researchers, industry leaders, innovation hubs, development organisations and youth innovators from across the region, reinforcing the importance of cross-sector partnerships in advancing Africa's innovation ecosystem.

The event was officially closed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Finance, Planning and Development, Prof. Josiah Aduda, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Eng. Prof. Ayub Gitau.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Aduda commended the organisers, participants and partners for delivering a successful forum that demonstrated the transformative power of collaboration.

"Our campus has been transformed into a vibrant hub of ideas, innovation and collaboration. Across the five thematic pavilions, we have witnessed lively discussions, inspiring demonstrations, meaningful networking and the extraordinary ingenuity of our young people. We have seen what is possible when universities, governments, industry, development partners and young innovators come together with a shared purpose," remarked Prof Aduda.

He noted that the partnerships forged during the event reaffirm the critical role of collaboration in nurturing innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable development across the continent. He further reiterated the University of Nairobi's commitment to fostering an enabling environment where innovation can thrive and where young people are empowered to develop practical solutions to local and global challenges.

The event was graced by His Excellency Arnaud Suquet, Ambassador of France to Kenya and Somalia, and later by the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, alongside senior government officials, university leaders, development partners, representatives from industry, innovation hubs and youth innovators from across Africa.

Throughout the day, participants explored emerging technologies, exchanged ideas, established new partnerships and identified opportunities for collaboration aimed at strengthening Africa's innovation landscape. The thematic pavilions provided an interactive platform for showcasing innovative solutions while encouraging knowledge sharing between academia, industry and the public sector.

The Africa Forward Youth Innovation Day underscored the growing importance of partnerships between universities, governments, industry and development organisations in creating opportunities for young innovators and accelerating Africa's innovation agenda.

As the event concluded, participants expressed optimism that the ideas, partnerships and networks established during the forum would continue to inspire innovation, promote knowledge exchange and contribute to sustainable socio-economic transformation across the continent.
