The University of Nairobi on July 22, 2026, hosted officials from the Ministry of Education for the 2026/2027 Performance Contract (PC) negotiations, reaffirming the institution's commitment to accountability, excellence and continuous improvement in service delivery.
The annual negotiations form part of the Government's Performance Contracting framework, which seeks to enhance efficiency, strengthen institutional accountability and promote the achievement of strategic national development goals across public institutions.
The University's delegation was led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Finance, Planning and Development, Prof. Josiah Aduda, whose division oversees the Directorate of Performance Contracting. The discussions focused on reviewing the University's proposed performance targets, key result areas and strategic priorities for the 2026/2027 financial year.
The negotiations were chaired by the Chairperson of the University Council, Prof. Chacha Nyaigotti-Chacha, who underscored the importance of performance contracting as a key governance tool that drives institutional effectiveness, accountability and improved service delivery. He noted that the process enables the University to align its operations with national priorities while fostering a culture of excellence and measurable results.
Prof. Aduda reiterated the University's commitment to attaining its performance targets through sound planning, prudent financial management and a results-driven approach. “I commend the collective efforts of the University's academic and administrative units in implementing programmes that support the institution's strategic agenda,” he acknowledged.
The Ministry of Education team commended the University for its dedication to the performance contracting process and engaged in constructive discussions aimed at refining performance indicators to ensure they are realistic, measurable and aligned with Government priorities.
The successful conclusion of the negotiations marks a significant step towards finalising the University's 2026/2027 Performance Contract. It also reinforces the University's commitment to delivering quality teaching, research, innovation and community engagement while upholding the highest standards of accountability, transparency and institutional performance.
